Quilting is my specialty
I love to sew/quilt using various quilting techniques that I’ve learned. There are many quilting designs or what we quilters call “blocks” to create a unique and creative wall décor, bed quilt and more. I want to share with you some of the creations that I am most proud of.
I don’t sell them in my Etsy shop or on my website because they take a long time to complete and most people don’t want to pay the cost that I’ll charge. Of course, if you see one that you really like I want you to contact me. I hope you enjoy looking at the quilts in my gallery. I also hope you appreciate things that are handmade. My wish is that more people learn how to make something with their own hands. We are all creative and you will feel very happy when you complete your first project.

Stain Glass Quilting Technique
This wall décor is called My Lovely Iris. I bought the pattern, directions and fabric at a quilt show. The owner was a lady who lived in Maryland. I told her that I was a new quilter and there was no way that I could quilt this. She graciously told me that she would help me. I decided to give it a try and began on my project. I called her several times and sent emails describing my problems. This was one of the hardest techniques I ever learned, but with her help I finished it. I am very grateful to this kind lady and fellow quilter. I hang several of my wall décors all over my home and change them periodically, but this one never gets moved because it is my favorite. Every time I look at it I am reminded that there are many wonderful people in this world who want to help others.
I plan to quilt a set of two smaller designs that I will sell as a set. It is hanging in my bathroom. I’ll have it ready for sale by January.
Basket of Flowers Quilt
I took a class to learn how to create this lovely quilt. It is very large and because I’m short it will cover me when I’m sitting on the couch. The baskets are made with small pieces of fabric. Notice that I used different shades of green. Notice the edge which we call the border and that it has a scalloped design.
The entire quilt took me a few months to finish since I worked on it between other projects. Someone once told me that I should always enjoy the process and not rush through projects with strict deadlines. Remember this good advice and apply it to projects that your involved with. A project is anything that keeps you busy and you enjoy doing.
Mosaic Quilt
I taught myself to quilt this lovely wall décor from a Quilting Kit which includes the fabric and directions. When I teach classes for new quilters I suggest that they buy the same type of kit as long as it is an easy project. This project is for advanced quilters like myself.
All the points on the ends of each diamond shape were hard to learn. I practiced on other fabric until I got it right. The hardest part to learn was the star that is in the middle. Luckily, a friend of mine helped me with the star. I love the fabric and colors of this quilt. I wish you could see it hanging on the wall in my home.
Laney's Quilt from Granny
I sometimes am asked to sew a quilt using clothing from someone that has passed away. This is not a project I like to do, but I understand that it can help a person that is grieving. Laney’s Grandmother who likes to be called Grammy past away two years ago. Her Grandfather hired me to sew this quilt for her. The fabric that I used are from Grammy’s shirts. The words that I embroidered on my machine are what Grammy would say to her all the time. Her Grandfather planned to give it to her for Christmas that year. I also sewed a quilt for him and another grandchild.
Origami Flowers Featured in Wall Décor
I taught myself to fold origami which was first created by Japanese people. I learned from two books and the design above was my first project. Some of the folded flowers are harder than others, but if your patient you will learn it. I’ve taught origami to a Girl Scout troop. I taught seniors how to fold an easy flower that we turned into a pin for their clothes.
Origami is a traditional artform that the Japanese have enjoyed for centuries. I feel a sense of wonder when I do origami. The wall decor that is shown at the top was made from a different book. Those flowers are created from two fabrics. Each design is different and my favorite one is in the middle. As you can see the squares are placed at an angle on the
Hand Embroidery
This is an artform that has been enjoyed by women for centuries. I taught myself to do embroidery stitches a long time ago. When I want to take a break from sewing/quilting I turn to embroidery. I made these pillows many years ago and use them as samples when I teach embroidery to ladies. Both these designs are easy as I only used two types of stitches. One is called the Satin Stitch and the other is called the Linking Stitch which you will see on the pillow on the left side. It is the stitch that encircles the design of the butterfly.
